Posted by Suhel Sayyad
Heterogeneous Parallel Processing is a need of time with parallel computing emerging as a recent trend in the last decade. From workstations to personal laptops till small handheld mobile devices is currently talking a configuration ranging from dual core to multi core architecture. Let’s have a brief discussion in this article on the fundamentals of a heterogeneous High Performance Computing. Heterogeneity basically refers to variance in the type of structure used to make a particular architecture. A simplest form of the heterogeneity can be expressed in terms of CPU and GPU. CPU is a traditional Central Processing Unit which is used to execute the programs. GPU i.e. Graphics Processing Units came into existence post need of High Performance Computing. Let’s analyze the basics of CPU and GPU in depth.

CPU Systems basically are Latency Oriented Cores and GPU are Throughput Oriented Cores. CPU are designed to optimize the latency whereas GPU are designed in order to increase the throughput of a system.

It comprises of large caches which can convert long latency memory accesses to short latency cache accesses. Goal is to keep as many as data elements in the cache. So instead of reaching out to Dynamic Random Access memory a call can be satisfied at the cache level. The CPU design is having sophisticated control basically given in terms of branch prediction for reduced branch latency. Also data forwarding logic is making data to transfer from one execution unit to another execution unit. Use of Powerful ALU is recommended to generate reduced operation latency.

Heterogeneous High Performance Computing

These are basically carrying Small caches to boost memory throughput by not making data reside on cache for longer period of time. Also it provides simple control with no branch prediction, no data forwarding. These kinds of systems come with Energy Efficient ALU’s. Many long latency but heavily pipelined systems are used for providing high throughput for the system. GPU needs large number of threads to cope up with latencies.

What to Choose CPU or GPU ?

Provided different nature of CPU and GPU with latency and throughput into their prime consideration, an application deployed is said to be great if it makes use of both CPUs and GPUs as part of their solution. This utilization of both concepts leads to a structure known as Heterogeneous High Performance Computing comprising of CPU and GPU structure.  CPU will be taking care of the sequential part of the application which will having latency as prime concern whereas GPU will be taking care of parallel parts where throughput is matter of concern.

Following mentioned are few domains in which Heterogeneous High performance computing can give probable solutions
Financial Analysis, Medical Imaging, Digital Image Processing, Digital Video Processing, Digital Audio Processing, Bioinformatics, Numerical Methods, and many more.

Android SSH Client Compare: ConnectBot and JuiceSSH

Posted by Suhel Sayyad
The two awesome SSH clients that I will use for comparison are ConnectBot Android SSH Client and JuiceSSH Android SSH Client. I have made comparisons based on the simplicity with respect to user experience, feature set, and style and customization options of each of these Android SSH Client app.

I think many people will say their Android phone will not be the primary device for administering their servers, so when you are not near a computer and just want to run some quick updates, you certainly don’t want to be messing around with a poor interface to get your work done. In this case ConnectBot Android SSH Client was the clear winner for me, simply because the user interface barely existed, where JuiceSSH Android SSH Client had me browsing through menus and options for configuration, ConnectBot Android SSH Client  just asked for a username, hostname, and password, and the work was done.

Android SSH Client Compare Simplicity

Feature Set

If you are a using SSH a lot and have a large number of servers, you need immediate access to all at times, you will probably want a more out of your Android SSH Client , and with features like synchronization between the devices, this time I go for JuiceSSHAndroid SSH Client hands . It takes a bit more configuration than ConnectBot Android SSH Client, but the end result is 1 touch access to any server you set up, from any of your devices.

Android SSH Client Compare Features

Winner: JuiceSSH

Colour customisation is completely missing in JuiceSSH Android SSH Client, ConnectBot Android SSH Client wins this one by default, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth mentioning the truly extensive colour control in ConnectBot Android SSH Client, as seen in the images below.

Android SSH Client Compare Colors

In summary, both apps are great and would suit anybody looking to make SSH connections from their Android device, however due to its simplicity and low footprint I will likely be sticking with ConnectBot Android SSH Client for the time being.

Infolinks : Make Money Online PPC Strategy

Infolinks : Not a fast earning provider

If you want to earn money online with help of Infolinks, the first thing you will need is a blog or website with some decent amount of traffic. Because Infolinks is a PPC known as ‘Pay Per Click’ program – it pays you on the basis of how many people click on advertisements shown at your website or blog. The amount of commission you receive per click depends on how much advertisers are paying for the particular ad on which the click happened. You will earn a share of that amount. Normally earnings are ranging from 2 cents to $15 per click. However, most of the earnings will be on the lower end.

Infolinks : It is Unpredictable

It’s important to note that one cannot estimate how much he or she will earn based on traffic of his/her blog. A user would be eager to know what the average amount is per click. No one knows the answer to this. It would be impossible for me or any Infolinks publisher to give this information because the ads all cost variable prices and the publishers have no idea what advertisers are paying. However, there are niches that pay more. So it is logical to believe that keyword phrases like make money, buy mobile, etc. may earn you more per click since these are highly competitive keywords.

Infolinks: Focus on your area.

Before you begin your site, make sure you’ve plenty of knowledge about a particular domain. That way it will be easier for you to write a lot of content precisely meaningful. The more content you have, the better chance you have getting approved into the program. Also, the more content and traffic, greater is the potential of earnings. If you want to make a lot of money, prepare to write a lot of content and learn how to publicize and market your site. You will really need to work at adding content to your site if you want to Make Money Online with Infolinks.

Samsung Knox and Samsung Wallet are debuting on the Note II as part of the Android 4.3 update. Here’s the complete changelog:
  • OpenGL 3.0 Support
  • ANT+ Support
  • Samsung KNOX Implementation (KNOX bootloader and dedicated application)
  • Samsung Wallet comes pre-loaded
  • Improved RAM management
  • Improved Display colour reproduction (Display looks much sharper than before)
  • Improved TouchWiz Launcher (Much less launcher redraws and less lag)
  • New Samsung Keyboard
  • New Samsung Browser (Full screen by default, new tab interface and more)
  • New Reading Mode (Optimises display for reading, used by only a few specific applications)
  • New Camera firmware
  • Minor UI tweaks (Contacts app, Flashlight Widget, dialog boxes etc)
The leaked ROM is only compatible with the N7100 version of the Galaxy Note II, so if you happen to have a N7105 LTE unit you are unfortunately out of luck. You can download the necessary files and find the instructions on how to flash them by following the source link below..

Android 4.4 KITKAT | Setting for battery percentage

Posted by Suhel Sayyad
When Google laid out their large laundry list of changes in Android 4.4 KITKAT, the company left out a couple of things. One of those things is a hidden setting that will allow you to enable battery percentage in the battery indicator icon. It’s a simple set of commands in ADB — so simple, in fact, that an app has been written to allow users to toggle the setting at a moment’s notice.

Android 4.4 KITKAT | Setting for battery percentage

So if it’s so simple, why didn’t Google include a setting for it? Probably because it flat-out sucks. The problem is that the battery percentage text is the same color as the battery, so you won’t be able to see the percentage until your battery has already drained quite a bit. It kind of defeats the purpose, no?
While it’s possible to decompile the APK and change the text color yourself, developer Kroegerama notes that this particular APK is not worth touching. He’s referring to SystemUI.apk. That’s pretty serious business there, so we agree with his cautious stance.

Install and Configure ADB, Android Debug Bridge

Posted by Suhel Sayyad
Most of us here are already quite familiar with the ADB (Android Debug Bridge).ADB, Android Debug Bridge, is a command-line utility included with Google’s Android SDK. ADB can control your device over USB from a computer, copy files back and forth, install and uninstall apps, run shell commands, and more.

The Android Debug Bridge, which comes as part of the Android SDK, allows for communication between your desktop computer and target device. So what can you do with ADB? Quite a bit. As alluded to earlier, you can push files to the device from the client PC, pull device from the device to the client PC, you can reboot (to Android, bootloader, or recovery), record a logcat, obtain a bug report, execute many standard Linux commands, and much, much more.

Install Java JDK & Android SDK

Before installing the Android SDK, you’ll have to install Oracle’s Java development kit. You can download it from here – ensure you download the x86 (32-bit) version, even if your computer uses a 64-bit operating system.

Even if you already have the Java runtime (JRE) installed, you’ll need to install the JDK as well.

JDK Install ADB Android Debug Bridge

Android SDK Setup

Once the Android SDK is downloaded and installed, launch the SDK Manager application from your Start menu.

Enable the Android SDK Platform-tools checkbox and click the Install button. This downloads and installs the platform-tools package, which contains ADB and other utilities.

Enable USB Debugging

To use ADB with your Android device, you must enable USB debugging on it. You’ll find this option under Developer Options on your device’s Settings screen.

USB Debugging ADB Android Debug Bridge

Test ADB and Install Device Drivers

Locate the android-sdk’s folder. Note the SDK path displayed at the top of the SDK Manager window.

If you used the default install location, you’ll find ADB in the following directory:

If you used a different install location, you’ll find ADB in the platform-tools directory inside your android-sdk directory.

Browse to this directory, hold Shift and right-click inside it, and select Open command window here.

To test whether ADB is working properly, connect your Android device to your computer using a USB cable and run the following command:

    adb devices

You should see a device in the list. If your device is connected but nothing appears in the list, you’ll need to install the appropriate drivers.

Your manufacturer may provide a downloadable driver package for your device. You can also try installing the Google USB Driver from the Extras folder in the SDK Manager window.

ADB Commands

Once you’ve got your drivers correctly installed and the adb devices command indicates it can communicate with your Android smartphone or tablet, you can start using ADB.

In addition to the variety of tricks that require ADB, ADB offers some useful commands:
  • adb install C:\package.apk – Installs the package located at C:\package.apk on your computer on your device.
  • adb uninstall – Uninstalls the package with from your device. For example, you’d use the name com.rovio.angrybirds to uninstall the Angry Birds app.
  • adb push C:\file /sdcard/file – Pushes a file from your computer to your device. For example, the command here pushes the file located at C:\file on your computer to /sdcard/file on your device
  • adb pull /sdcard/file C:\file – Pulls a file from your device to your computer – works like adb push, but in reverse.
  • adb logcat – View your Android device’s log. Can be useful for debugging apps.
  • adb shell – Gives you an interactive Linux command-line shell on your device.
  • adb shell command – Runs the specified shell command on your device.

HTML5 Apps: Write Once, Run Anywhere . What Next ?

Posted by Suhel Sayyad
The growth in HTML5 programmers and content creators is fantastic and truly justifying of how much interest there is in HTML5. The most important part, however, is identifying how much there is to learn about HTML5 to truly realize its “write once, run everywhere” promise. In particular, how does the HTML5 community help these new HTML5 developers have a great experience and make it equal to, if not better, than native application development experiences? Here are some views about it.
First, let’s define HTML5 and native apps. I identify HTML5 apps as either:

Web apps

Apps that makes use of only HTML5 code (HTML, CSS, and Javascript) and no native device features or APIs. Web apps can execute in a browser anywhere on any device, desktop, server, etc.

Hybrid apps

HTML5 apps that utilize native device features, such as a camera or accelerometer, and use device APIs. These apps are also “packaged” for distribution by the various app stores.
Native apps are typically written in the native language of the device operating system. Each device or platform is providing a different toolset for their native app developers including the materials needed for app store submission. The biggest problem with native apps is making them available on many different platforms. Large portions of the app may need to be rewritten in the native language of each platform you are targeting. HTML5 runs everywhere a browser does, and does not require downloading and learning a new toolset per platform.

So the solution to creating a cross-platform, runs-anywhere app is to write it in HTML5?
There are some caveats that need to be considered for an HTML5 app to really perform well. It is important to understand these to help ensure that standards, tools and developers’ experience with HTML5 continue to improve. Here are three factors to keep in mind to create great HTML5 apps:

Responsive design. HTML5 enables one to write truly “responsive” apps. This is an app that will automatically resize based on the browser and screen size; automatically detect and change the user interface (UI) to reflect that of the platform on which the app is running; and will change according to the orientation of the device. Creating apps that respond in this way is the essence of “responsive design.”

Performance. HTML5 app performance is much different within the confines of a mobile webview in comparison to a desktop browser. Too many DOM manipulations, memory leaks, poor choices in JavaScript libraries and other issues can drag your app to a crawl. HTML5 requires a different approach to programming compared to a desktop, where resources are plentiful and fast.

Graphics and animation. Despite the many naysayers, implementing graphics and animation in an HTML5 mobile app is actually quite possible. If you stick with 2-D graphics and keep it simple, you can build animated apps. Reaching for the highest speed 3-D graphics is best left to the native app developer, however.

Now, the only question is: where is anywhere? Is it a phone, tablet or Ultrabook? Those are obvious. What about a television, a car’s infotainment system ?

Useful Blogging Tips to Novice from Experts

Posted by Suhel Sayyad
I’ve heard blogging referred to a couple of times recently as a mixture between an art and a science. If this is true (and I think it is), there’s no ‘right way’ to approach blogging if you want to be successful. There are plenty of people who’ve done a great job of it though, and I thought it would be useful to learn from them.

Useful Blogging Tips to Novice from Experts

1. Get ideas from your audience

Create blog posts that answer the most interesting questions from people you engage with on social media.

    Dave Larson, founder of @tweetsmarter

This can be a great way to gather ideas of what topics people would most like to read about, which will help your blog grow! One of the best ways I’ve seen this in action is through blog comments or Tweets.

2. Understand your audience

Understand your audience better than they understand themselves. It takes a lot of upfront research, and often means being a member of the very tribe you’re trying to lead – but it pays off.

Brian Clark, founder and CEO, Copyblogger

Understanding your audience better means you’ll have a better idea of what blog content will resonate with them, which is a good start when you get to writing blog posts.

A great technique for doing this is to simply ask your readers first on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn with an engaging quote. If people respond well to it, than this is probably a great topic to write about. An example for this comes from Andrew Chen who famously “tests” his blogpost ideas on Twitter first.

3.Write for yourself first

Write for yourself first & foremost. Ignore the fact that anyone else will read what you write; just focus on your thoughts, ideas, opinions and figure out how to put those into words. Write it and they will come.

    Adii Pienaar, founder of PublicBeta

Adii’s experience in writing for himself firstly has made a difference to his blog in ways he didn’t expect:

Yes, since I’ve been writing for myself, I’ve found that I write more and I publish more often. I think though that the main reason for that is that I don’t decide whether to publishing something based on the traction / reception that the post will receive within my audience; instead if I want to publish something, I do so. For myself.

4. Build your email list

Start building your email list from day one. Even if you don’t plan on selling anything, having an email list allows you to promote your new content to your audience directly without worrying about search rankings, Facebook EdgeRank, or other online roadblocks in communications.

Kristi Hines, freelance writer and professional blogger

When you’re asking readers to sign up for your email list, you might want to try experimenting with different language.

5. Love your existing readers

Love the readers you already have. A lot of bloggers get quite obsessed with finding new readers – to the point that they ignore the ones they already have. Yes – do try to find new readers but spend time each day showing your current readers that you value them too and you’ll find that they will help you grow your blog.

    Darren Rowse, founder of ProBlogger

Focusing on your readers is a great way to get to know them better .

Considering Embedded Android ?

Posted by Suhel Sayyad
Android is the most trending operating system for mobile devices. It was started around 2008 to be used only on higher end luxurious devices. Sooner, Android became public and anyone with ample knowledge of Java could come up with an Android code. Additionally, what first developed as a purely OS for Google device then turned out to be an open book. Now any manufacturer in fact every manufacturer except Nokia, RIM, Microsoft are manufacturing Android devices. On the other hand the Apple which is considered to be the most prevalent Smart Phone Corporation and also the rival of Android doesn’t leave its OS to be sold with other manufacturer’s devices. This is both a fortunate and unfortunate affair. The advantage is that Android being globally manufactured by varied manufacturers will lead to high reputation and as most of the apps are free Android also means freedom. However, on the contrary restricting iOS only among Apple made Apple the most prevalent and leading mobile manufacturer cum OS corporation.

Embedding Android

According to recent surveys it shows that Android and Apple’s iOS are the two operating systems that run on almost 85% of the smart phones in the world. This is because of their lucrative features, strikingly brilliant apps. Additionally, it is also a known fact that the Android and iOS are software stacks running effectively on top of an embedded operating system. However the stock Android system is not that easy to understand and use like that of iOS. That’s why there is the common myth that iOS app development is easier. Still, the myth as I mentioned is a myth and not the reality. Android requires not just Java knowledge but more in depth knowledge on the underlying interface.

Now the talk comes about embedding Android. Embedding Android for other devices needs certain points to be pondered about. To be precisely saying Android can be considered as some illegitimate offspring of Linux and Java since the stock interface is set that way. Additionally, the Android to be embedded needs following hardware requirements;

•    High resolution color graphic display
•    Touch screen or any other input form
•    Higher end processor
•    1GB or more DRAM
•    2 GB minimum of non volatile storage.

These hardware requirements are mandatory to embed Android in any other device. Additionally, when it comes to power management Android will need a permanent on power supply like a rechargeable battery or power source. However if this is the case the number of devices you wish to embed Android will be reduced since you won’t be able to find a power source devices like vehicle head. There are few other additional complications too such as Android taking a very longer time to boot from cold. Thus, not all devices will be compatible with the embedded Android.

Albeit Android clearly has an upper hand among other operating systems (with exception of iOS) we can’t blindly consider embedding Android. There are no denials to the fact that Android is the most effective and sophisticated OS however this doesn’t mean the embedding of Android can be done as easily as said. It would be wise on your path to think about the various drawbacks and methods to overcome them before considering embedded Android.

Is Cloud Hosting a Good Option for your Website ?

Posted by Suhel Sayyad
Over the past few years, many organizations have had an opportunity to figure out the ways to implement cloud technology into their business processes and make it work for them. It is true that cloud computing offers quite a few perks for business owners but does this mean it’s a good option for your website too? The answer is both yes and no, depending on the type of website you run.
Is Cloud Hosting a Good Option for your Website

One of the things you need to think about when starting a website is how you intend to handle it in future, when it exceeds the limits of a basic web hosting package. This translates into a high amount of traffic, possibly more downloadable files and clearly a better storage capacity. Usually, it is recommended that startup businesses and small organizations consider the possibilities with the cloud technology, as it may be a cost-effective solution for most of their IT worries. When it comes to website hosting, there are also some major benefits worth considering and they usually come to these:

Cloud technology operates from huge server farms that have sufficient hardware equipment to provide smooth transition of power if a single server goes down. This allows provider to offer pay-per-use pricing plans, meaning that you constantly upgrade and downgrade resources according to your needs. This way, you don’t have to worry whether your website would be able to handle large amounts of traffic at peak times because cloud offers instant server backup. Moreover, you can be sure you’ll have additional bandwidth or disk space are available to you any time.

Due to the previously mentioned possibility to quickly substitute a malfunctioning server with a working one, cloud web hosting gives you peace of mind in terms of your website’s stability. With dedicated servers, the process of identifying the flaw and setting it up and running again may take a while, which makes it a less desirable option in this respect. Of course, companies that have large IT management teams don’t have to worry a lot about this issue but smaller organizations definitely do.

Easy to set up and maintain.

In comparison to dedicated hosting, cloud-hosted websites don’t require much of your time and energy. As your provider is fully responsible for maintenance, this is a worry less for you, as is the set up process, which is fast and smooth.
However, despite all these benefits, many organizations don’t feel at ease with transferring control over their data to external parties. This is usually common among large corporations that run ecommerce website and have large consumer databases to operate with. They have two major reasons not to opt for cloud hosting:

Lack of control.

Cloud hosting doesn’t provide users with root-access to the server, which means less control over data and applications. This is especially important for users who run multiple websites or those who got used to having full control over configuration settings.

Data security is a big issue in the cloud world because the technology is still quite vulnerable to different kinds of malicious attacks. Whereas this doesn’t mean your data automatically becomes someone else’s property when sent to cloud, it does put your sensitive information to a risk.
Cloud technology is definitely a major game changer in many industries but it’s simply not suitable for every user. In businesses, cloud is a particularly sensitive issue because it requires developing some new IT strategies and business models. Still, it can represent a good option for your website and allow it to grow at its own pace, which is certainly a good motivation for learning more about the cloud web hosting offers available.
